Striped Cardi Party

little black dress striped cardigan

One great thing about wearing a versatile piece like a little black dress is that you can easily improvise new looks without even trying. I’ve had this cardigan for years and NEVER thought of pairing it with a dress. I’ve always worn it with a t-shirt and jeans. I guess sometimes we limit the roles for certain items in our closets, but if you want to maximize the potential (why am I starting to sound like a finance seminar? lol) of your wardrobe, you’ve gotta think outside the box and wear your clothes differently!

LBD Look: Sock it to Me

one little black dress white socks and black heels
I admit it. I’m already starting to run out of ideas! This is the fifth LBD look, I’ve put together for this blog and I’ve already done a lot of my favorites. ( One of my friends at church even asked if I only wear black dresses now :P) We know what that means:

Time to get creative.

One trend I’ve seen on a lot of the fashion blogs is the socks + heels look that I’ve always wanted to try, so I figured there’s no time like the present πŸ™‚

Adding a white sweater as well gave it kind of a school girl look, but it worked for me.

LBD Look: It’s Black, It’s White

one little black dress white white bag

When wearing a little black dress, you always run the risk of having kind of a bleak “funeral” type look if you aren’t careful with your accessories. For this LBD look, I paired black and white accessories with my dress to brighten up my look. I love how I was able to find a perfect belt and shoe match. I’ve had them both in my closet for years, but never wore them at the same time. My LBD was the first to ever bring them together πŸ™‚

This white purse is my favorite. It was definitely the star of Β the show today because its bright color changed the whole look dramatically. Oh, and this is the first time I wore my lace gloves in public. They made me feel like a perfectly classy lady.

My Natural Hair in All its Shapes and Forms

one little black dress curly natural hair

Ever since I’ve started this blog, a few people have complimented and inquired about my hair, requesting that I make a post about it. I decided to just share a sort of photo collage about my hair’s versatility. I don’t have a good hair day every day (by noooo means!), but when I do, it’s fun to play with πŸ™‚

This is what my hair looks like when it’s wet. This is one of my favorite looks, and for a long time I tried really hard to make it stay this way, but by now I’ve learned to accept that my hair only looks like this for a few minutes before it turns to its true, frizzy, fluffy self:

Big difference right? My hair in its true texture is much wider, frizzier, and has more character than the wet look that I always wanted.

More hair styles:
natural hair styles one little black dress1. Two strand twists. I used to wear my hair like this allll the time, and it protected my hair and kept is soo healthy and made it grow really fast. I haven’t worn them lately though, because I’ve been lazy πŸ˜›
2. A two strand twist-out. Possibly my best hair day ever!
3. Fluffy hair. Combed out all of the curls to mimic a blow-dried look. This is the closest I’ve ever gotten my hair to being an “afro.”
4. Twist out with flat twists to one side.

#StaightHairDontCare! I only straighten my hair 2-4 times a year. It’s always fun to see how long it’s grown! πŸ™‚

Well, that’s all folks! Let me know if you have any questions. πŸ™‚ This isΒ a fashion blog, but I’m happy to spotlight my hair every now and then if you want. Let me know if you want to see posts about my routine, favorite products/techniques, deep conditioner recipes, etc. And if you’d rather me just stick to fashion, you can say that too! Any feedback is welcome πŸ™‚

Stay warm, and have a great day everyone! πŸ™‚

LBD Look: Red Velvet

little black dress red heels

So my red pumps make yet another appearance. Too soon? Nah. πŸ˜›

I find that one of the easiest ways to accessorize a black dress is to throw in a pop or two of red. It has to been done subtly though. You don’t want to overdo it.

I also took the liberty of layering a plain black tee underneath by LBD to give it a sleeved look. Can you tell? πŸ™‚

The dress is actually sleeveless with a deep V-shape in the back. Adding the t-shirt gives me just the amount of added modesty that I want.

LBD Look: The Cable-Knit Sweater

little black dress with cable sweater

It was extremely cold this Sabbath. So cold that extreme measures and layers had to be taken to ensure my warmth. I had a totally different outfit in mind that morning, but once I found out what the temperature was (28 degrees Fahrenheit when I woke up, 36 when these photos were taken) I changed everything and started over. I actually believe in comfort over fashion, and I believe you can have both simultaneously. Plus, I like keeping all of my extremities.

Let me explain just how cold it was. It was so cold, that I went through all of my tights and decided that none of them were warm enough. I actually wore a pair of leggings with my dress and slid a pair of black socks underneath to make them look like tights. Nobody noticed. And if they did, I wouldn’t care.

I layered this warm cabled sweater over my little black dress to keep me warm and toasty. Would you believe that I got this sweater for just $2? Apparently even though temperatures are hovering around the low 30s, stores are flushing out their winter items right now to make room for their spring collections. Silly stores and their schedules.
